Dear OCMEA Colleagues,

Hope the year is going great for you and your students!

Central New York's own Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps is currently seeking members for the 2008 season, with a show entitled "Reflexions: the Music of Samuel Hazo". I just returned from camp last weekend and Wayne Downey and David Glyde (both Blue Devils arrangers/instructors) have written some outstanding charts for "Ride" and "Sevens". We can't wait for "Echoes"!

The Brigadiers is a DCA All-Age (formerly called "Senior") Corps, so rehearsals are on weekends--about two a month until the Finals held in Rochester during Labor Day Weekend. For the old-timers out there like me: "bugles" these days are actually the same three-valve brasses used in marching band (no longer pitched in G). Although a commitment to practice parts and attend rehearsals is a must, the experience with the Brigs family is like none other. The corps boasts some fine musicians, including band directors on primary, as well as on secondary instruments (for example, I am a former percussion major playing my secondary axe--euphonium. My son marches in the drumline so it's something special we do together).

We'd love to have you, your colleagues, and/or your advanced high school students come to our next camp, which will be at ES-M High School on Saturday, February 16 from 1:00-10:00, and on Sunday Feb. 17 from 9:00-3:00. Please go to the Brigadiers' website for more information: www.brigadiers.com , or feel free to contact me (number below). Best to all for the rest of the school year! --Kevin
