Jazz Band Clinic at Manlius Pebble Hill School

Free Jazz workshop on Friday, January 18th in the MPH Theater from  
4:00PM-6:00PM.


Brian Lewis from the Berklee School of Music in Boston will present a  
big band clinic with the Young Lions of Central New York on Friday,  
January 18th from 4:00PM-to 6:00PM in the Coville Theater at Manlius  
Pebble Hill School.  Mr. Lewis is a fine trumpet player, composer and  
educator. He has performed with the Mel Lewis Orchestra, Phil Woods,  
Don Menza, and has been on the Berklee faculty for twenty years.

This clinic is opened Syracuse area high school and middle school  
jazz band directors and their students. For more information contact

Here's some information about the YLCNY.
The Young Lions of Central New York were formed in 2006 to provide an  
opportunity for accomplished high school musicians to rehearse and  
perform Big Band Jazz in the Central New York area on a year-round  
basis. The primary mission of The Young Lions is to immerse young  
musicians in the history of Big Band Jazz through performance. The  
secondary mission is to share this work with elementary and junior  
high school students in Central New York by performing special  
concerts at local schools. In addition, this group will raise funds  
throughout the year in order to travel to New York City and perform  
in a professional jazz venue.

Some of the highlights of the last year included workshops with  
international musicians such as Jean-Michel Pilc and Danilo Perez,  
performances at Le Moyne College, the Syracuse Center for the Arts  
and a trip to New York City on Sunday, May 27, 2007 to perform a two- 
hour concert at El Taller Latino Americano in Manhattan. The band's  
most recent concert was held at Jazz Central in Syracuse, on Monday,  
December 10th 2007. The seventeen piece band performed music by Duke  
Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, J.J. Johnson and Gordon Goodwin. The  
YLCNY will start the New Year with a concert and workshop with a  
faculty member from Boston's Berklee School of Music on January 18th  
2008. This event will take place at Manlius Pebble Hill School and be  
opened to area jazz educators and their students.
