Syracuse Opera presents a Student Matinee of:

 

 Don Pasquale will mark the fifth annual student matinee performance that enables students to experience a live opera.  This will be a fully staged production with a cast of hundreds including the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and Syracuse Opera Chorus. The performance will be presented during the school day. Prior to the performance, we will provide teachers with a comprehensive study guide to assist with preparing their students for this unforgettable experience.

The performance will take place at Civic Center Theater

and it will run approximately two and one-half hours.

 

The plot of this humorous bel canto opera revolves around a trick played by Ernesto and his sweetheart Norina, upon Ernesto's uncle and guardian, Don Pasquale. Ernesto will not marry another, as his uncle wants him to, so Pasquale determines to disinherit him. To secure an heir for his wealth, Don Pasquale decides to marry. With the connivance of a friend, Dr. Malatesta, Ernesto gets his true love, Norina, to attract Pasquale's attention. The old gentleman succumbs to her charms; but, when the marriage contract has been signed, she staggers him by turning into a demanding shrew. By then, he is glad to give her up to his nephew.

 

The student matinee performance will be sung in Italian with projected English Translations, making it easy for all audience members to understand and enjoy this comedic opera.
