Attention Music Educators!
We've added a huge new dimension to our educational mission at the CNY Jazz
Arts Foundation by creating the CNY Jazz Arts Institute. Our mission at the
JAI is to provide aspiring musicians with opportunities to discover,
develop, perform, network and prepare for a life in music.
The Institute will focus on two new professional training ensembles, the JAI
Big Band and the Jam Factory improv lab ensembles. All students across the
region from any commutable distance are invited to be a part of these
exciting new groups, woodshedding their playing chops and working together
as the ambassadors of jazz in Central New York.
Jazz Arts Institute students will be given additional benefits such as:
serving as the student ensemble for all CNYJO Concert Series Clinics,
performing before or in CNY Jazz Orchestra concerts, being mentored by our
guest artists in the Scholastic Festival of Jazz in the Square, guaranteed
placement in our SummerJazz Workshop, career and college counseling,
audition CD recording assistance, private teacher referral service, and
eventual private instruction in theory, history and jazz keyboard harmony
(as Jazz Central's Phase II construction is completed). And, for the
2008-2009 season, a "Jazz Ambassadors" group of entry-level professionals
will be formed to provide the public with musical services, learning all the
applied and business skills necessary to launch a performing career - and
get paid professional rates on paying gigs!
Audition/interviews will be held on Thursday evenings starting October 11th,
and will be informal in nature - each candidate may bring in any materials
they wish to demonstrate their level of expertise, or just be prepared to
improvise. A parent/guardian must be at the initial interview. And tuition?
For the entire 2007-2008 season, JAI Big Band tuition is only $275, and Jam
Factory Lab only $175. JAI Big Band enrollment is limited to 18, and each
Jam Factory Lab to 12. A waiting list will be developed. The groups will
perform three concerts per year in Jazz Central and other locations, and
rehearsals are scheduled on Thursday evenings, avoiding school breaks and
OCMEA events.
Please ask your motivated students to call 479-5299 to request materials or
contact us directly with student referrals, and they will be contacted to
schedule an initial meeting at Jazz Central. Personally refer students with
exceptional financial needs to us directly, please. Work with the pros -
learn for a lifetime. Call us now.
