The internationally acclaimed Syracuse Children's Chorus continues its 27th
season with the traditional holiday presentation of The Nine Lessons and
Carols. This season, the Chorus welcomes legendary composer and arranger
Alice Parker as guest narrator. The concert will be presented on Sunday,
December 2, 2007 at 4:00 pm, at Most Holy Rosary Church in Syracuse.
Choristers will perform both contemporary and classic songs of the season.
In celebration of her lifelong contribution to American choral music,
repertoire will include many of Alice Parker's own works. The audience is
invited to join in the singing of familiar carols, including Hark! The
Herald Angels Sing and Joy to the World, during the performance. The Nine
Lessons and Carols will conclude with choristers surrounding the audience
for a candlelit a cappella rendition of Stille Nacht (Silent Night).
A native of Boston, Alice Parker began composing at a young age. She
graduated from Smith College with a major in music performance and
composition, followed by a master's degree from the Juilliard School, where
she studied choral conducting with Robert Shaw. Parker/Shaw arrangements of
American folksongs, hymns and spirituals form an enduring repertoire for
choruses all over the world.
Tickets and additional information are available by calling the Syracuse
