Syracuse Opera presents a 
Student Matine Performance of

March 10, 2008

Don Pasquale will mark the fifth annual student matinee performance that enables students to experience a live opera.  This will be a fully staged production with a cast of hundreds including the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and Syracuse Opera main-stage performers. The performance will be presented during the school day. Prior to the performance, we will provide teachers with a comprehensive study guide to assist with preparing their students for this unforgettable experience.

The performance will take place at the Crouse Hinds Theater in the Civic Center 
and it will run approximately two and one-half hours.
 

The plot of this humerous bel canto opera revolves around a trick played by Ernesto and his sweetheart Norina, upon Ernesto's uncle and guardian, Don Pasquale. Ernesto will not marry another woman, as his uncle wants him to, so Pasquale determines to disinherit him. To secure an heir for his wealth, Don Pasquale decides to marry. With the collusion of a friend, Dr. Malatesta, Ernesto gets his darling Norina, to catch the attention of Pasquale. The old gentleman succumbs to her charms; but, when the marriage contract has been signed, she staggers him by turning into a demanding shrew, so he is glad to give her up to his nephew.

 

The performance will be sung in Italian with projected English translations, 

making it easy for all audience members to understand and enjoy this comedic opera.
